WHAT WE DO

Residential Advocacy

Ensuring Safe, Dignified Living for Oklahomans with IDD

Every person deserves to live in a safe, supportive home where they are treated with dignity and respect.

Oklahoma Advocates Involved in Monitoring (OK AIM) is a nationally recognized program funded by the State of Oklahoma that monitors state-funded residential homes for people with IDD. Our trained monitors conduct home visits, assess quality of life, and advocate for improvements.

Ensure residents have choices & independence.

Prevent neglect, mistreatment, and unsafe conditions.

Hold providers accountable for high-quality care.

You can make a difference! Volunteer as an OK AIM monitor and help improve the lives of individuals with IDD in community-based residences.

How It Works

OK AIM monitors visit homes across Oklahoma and evaluate four key areas:

1. Respect for Residents – Are individuals treated with dignity?

2. Opportunities for Growth – Do residents have choices in their daily lives?

3. Quality of Staff – Are caregivers supportive and well-trained?

4. Living Environment – Is the home safe and comfortable?

95% of monitors report that their visits make a real difference.

Monitors make the OK AIM program work. Monitors participate in the program because they believe Oklahomans with IDD who live in community-based residences funded by the state should be empowered to make their own choices. All OK AIM monitors are reimbursed for costs and work with our OK AIM field coordinators, who are based in Tulsa.

Oklahomans with IDD, members of their families, and interested Oklahomans are welcome and encouraged to enroll as OK AIM monitors. Monitors receive training and materials that prepare them to make monitoring visits.

Monitors are needed in all parts of the state to make visits.
