Planning for the Future

Planning for the future is one of the most important and most loving steps families can take. For individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), thoughtful planning helps create stability, protect rights, and open doors to greater independence and opportunity across the lifespan.

At The Arc of Oklahoma, we walk alongside families as they navigate complex decisions about adulthood, supports, and long-term security. Whether you are just beginning to think about the future or updating an existing plan, you don’t have to do it alone.

Get Started Planning

It’s never too early to start building your family’s future plan. A future plan is a guide for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to lead a good life as independently as possible. It can also help people with IDD reach their goals and dreams.

A future plan is important for all families, especially when a parent or caregiver is no longer able to provide support. Thinking about the future can feel overwhelming, but planning is both possible and necessary.

The Arc’s Center for Future Planning® offers trusted tools and resources to help individuals with IDD and their families create a comprehensive plan.
