WHAT WE DO

Self-Advocacy

Empowering People with IDD
to Live the Lives They Want.

Self-advocacy is having the tools to confidently speak up for your own wants and needs. It means knowing your rights, using your voice, and having a say in the matters that effect you. People with IDD have the right to advocate for themselves and others. Self-advocates, or individuals with lived experience with a disability, are the experts on their own lives.

Self-advocates also provide important knowledge, experience, and skills that individuals, organizations, and government agencies need in order to effectively support the needs of and enhance the lives of people with disabilities.

The Arc of Oklahoma’s Self-Advocacy Program provides:

✔ Peer-led support groups for social connection & skill-building.

✔ Leadership training to help individuals with IDD become community advocates.

✔ Workshops on employment, digital literacy, & civic engagement.

Your voice matters. We help self-advocates build confidence, gain independence, and take action.
